Tuck a $20 in your cell phone case
« on: June 11, 2012, 11:02:16 AM »
If you have a case on your cell phone, this is one of the easiest ways to tuck away some money for "just in case." Maybe you lose your wallet or your credit/debit card is locked and you need cab fare home. By simply tucking a twenty (or whatever other amount) into the case, you may find yourself saved. :)

I tend to keep a wad of money at home for emergencies, as I don't like keeping all my dosh in the bank.  But this is a great idea, also - although I would recommend bumping it up to around $50.00.

The issue with bumping it up too much is that if you lose your phone, you're out that money as well. I think spreading your emergency funds through a few different places would work out well. So a 20 in your phone, 20 in your glove compartment in the car, 20 in the back of your wallet, etc. Chances are, you'll have access to more than one if you find yourself in need.

That's a great idea, because most people always have their phone with them. Another idea is to stick a $20 note - or whatever amount you decide - into the pocket of your favourite jacket. I'd also go along with an emergency fund in the glove box - very handy if the fuel warning light comes on and you've maxed out your cards. Remember to replace the emergency fund if you have to use it.

Oo, jacket pocket is a great idea. I keep 10s or 20s tucked into the little zippered pocket of my purses and hidden sections in my wallets. Out of sight, out of mind. I've actually re-discovered "free money" later on when I've decided to get rid of a purse before and still had cash hidden away.

My keychain has a wallet type holder attached, so I keep about $10 in it.  It has come in so useful, when I needed just a little more cash.  I also have some stashed elsewhere.
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

What a great tip Jessi, thanks for sharing it with us. I would have never thought of sticking money in my cell phone case.  :) I think you're right and it's best to spread the money out in different places as it's less likely you'll lose it all if you lose one item. Like you I've also found bills in zip pockets of jackets, purses and handbags. It's always nice to discover it he he.  :)

Just an idea here. While those banknotes would be handy for sure, don't forget to hoard some coins, too. Coins can be used as money as well as other things. Their metal composition makes them rather useful.

Nice tip! I also suggest spreading all your coins or some spare cash in all your bags and purses. You'll never know when will you need those extra dough. :-)

Of course, if you can, putting a small gold coin somewhere in the depths of your purse wouldn't be a bad idea. Worst case, you can chew on your gold coin.
