Medical / Re: Bee or wasp Sting
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:27:04 PM »
I agree Jessi that oatmeal and baking soda are also great to use on bee or wasp stings. I have also heard that honey is good on these stings as well. It is great to learn many different ways to treat ailments based on holistic methods. We can be better prepared to face a disaster if we immerse ourselves in knowledge about these things.

I also heard that honey can work for a bee sting. When my sister and I got stung by bees, my mom would always put toothpaste on it. Regular or baking soda toothpaste work just as well.

Medical / Re: Vitamin C and Llysine

I always knew Vitamin C was good for you. But, what's Llysine? I've never heard of it before. You can also get a daily dose of calcium and vitamin C from orange juice.

Some of the essential gear needed for long term wilderness survival include:

1. a strong tent (not one of those weak ones made from similar material as an umbrella; possibly one from an outdoor store like L.L. Bean)
2. Campfire stove
3. Hunting gear like rifles (especially when your food supply is running low), skinning materials
4. matches and wood to make fire
5. water filter and or water supply. It's best to ration when you can.

General / Re: Being honest with yourself, would you become a zombie?
« on: April 27, 2012, 03:15:43 PM »
I never really thought this question through. It would be a travesty if society just came to an abrupt end. Everyone is so used to normal in the world. I'm not sure if I would become a zombie or not.

I can see doing most of these things on the list. I'm trying to prepare a first aid kit with stuff like bandages, dressings, alcohol and peroxide and all sorts of stuff.

Food & Water / Re: Canning Green Beans
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:44:10 PM »
If you're canning green beans, it's best to put them in an airtight jar. They'll definitely stay fresher longer this way. Hope this helps. :)

Soda can definitely give you problems. You either get gallstones or Urinary Tract Infections. I only drink soda if my dad brings me a bottle home from the store. But, sometimes I get headaches or feel weird about it afterwards. This is especially true if I'm drinking diet soda. I can't drink that stuff at all anymore.

Medical / Re: Treating a Headache
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:35:46 PM »
I just tried this method. It does really work. I'm starting to get headaches a lot myself. It's usually because I'm tired or because I'm constantly at the computer. Thanks.  :)

Food & Water / Re: Food Prices Rise for Third Month Running
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:31:48 PM »
Food prices have been steadily rising based on the high prices companies pay for stuff like corn, wheat and a whole bunch of other natural ingredients. That's probably the reason why stuff cost so much now. With that being said, food prices have been on a roller coaster for years. We have a few years where food is not that expensive and then we have some years when the cost of food is higher than usual.

This is the first time I've seen anything like this. But, this may be useful in more ways than one.

Breaking News! / Re: N. Korean army vows to turn Seoul to ashes
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:21:26 PM »
North Korea has been saying stuff like this for some time now. It's nothing new. They like to invoke tension with neighboring countries just to see if anyone is paying attention to them.

Economic Disruption / Re: Supplemental income ideas

These all sound like great ideas. I should try some of them sometime.

Boozing with the bomb? What a way to alter your consciousness before such a serious event. Some people are just that brave enough to do something like that.  :)

Prepper's Bar & Grill / Re: On being single
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:29:11 AM »
Being single isn't the end of the world. I'm almost 20 years old and never really had a real boyfriend. There was a time when I may have went out with a couple people, but I always ignored any guy (or boy) who may have had a crush on me. You'll know when you're ready to get married.

Urban Survival / Re: Assistance on sugar storage?
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:18:59 AM »
Sugar can last for some years if you store it in airtight containers. As long as you don't open it, or close it up tightly when you're done, you have nothing to worry about.

Urban Survival / Re: Internet Ready
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:17:35 AM »
I definitely agree with you here. The internet is one of the most viable sources of information you should have in today's world. This is how you send out your job applications and so forth.

General / Re: Do you practice and drill prep procedures?

I should really get a head start on this. I don't wanna wait until the last minute for something bad to go down.

I don't know. Maybe. Nothing is out of the question nowadays. If horses and buggies do come back in style, then society would be moving backwards.

I think an RV would be best suited for situations like that. Preferably because it's almost like having a house and a car rolled into one.

Shelter / Re: Emergency Apartment
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:23:12 PM »
If you can afford the house, then I don't see any harm. If you're struggling to pay the mortgage on the only house you got, then I'd suggest you reconsider. It all depends. I myself wouldn't invest in another house if I'm already paying a mortgage on the one I have now. There's seriously no joy in paying two electric bills, two water bills and more repair bills if something goes wrong.
